What is Ladder Toss?
Ladder Toss, also known as ladder golf, hillhilly horseshoes, hillbilly golf, and redneck golf is played with a ladder that consists of 3 steps, each step spaced 13 inches apart, and bolos, 2 golf-like balls attached together with a piece of nylon rope. Ladder Toss is slowly gaining popularity at picnics, tailgates, bbq's and other backyard parties.
Materials:
- 1 Game ladder
- 3 yellow bolos
-
3 black bolos
History:
Many believe that cowboys in western U.S. or Mexico used to throw snakes like bolos at fences or branches for points.
How to Play:
- Each team is given a set of 3 bolos each. Players will take turns throwing the bolo until every player has thrown all three of their bolos.
- Steps of the ladder is worth different points. The top step is worth 1 points, the middle is worth 2, and the bottom is worth 3 points. If the player gets all three bolos on three different steps, they get an extra point.
- An alternative technique is to try to bounce the bolo up the steps.
- Keep playing until a team reaches exactly 21 points as you are not allowed to go over that score. If you go over, your points for that round do not count.
Strategies:
- Putting one golf ball in your hand and the string through your fingers will produce the best shot by attempting to get spin so that the bolo can wrap around one of the steps.
