Pool vs. Snapnames vs. NameJet vs. Godaddy

Dayofgames.com was finally released by the knucklehead who has been holding it for a couple years.  He never had any content on it.  I never approached him to buy it.  I just sort of hoped he would go away.  Finally, he failed to renew.  The WhoIs status finally got to pendingDelete and I figured I would just grab it once that 5 day wait was over.  I then got a little ansy, so I registered the Backorder with GoDaddy.  Then I got even MORE ansy and started doing some research.  I discovered that the GoDaddy Backorder was 100% worthless and that I had just wasted $20 (I actually called back later and asked for a refund, which was granted).  After my research I realized that the BIG 3 OTHER GUYS are not to be F’d with when grabbing a domain.  So a smart domain purchaser should just register with all 3… and pray that it does not go to auction.

So… I registered with Pool.com and SnapNames.com and NameJet.com

SnapNames scored the  domain and it didn’t go to auction.  Rock and roll.  It’s been a day, and I still haven’t received any notification from Pool or NameJet, but I assume those will come on Monday.

Also of note, I received unsolicited offers from 2 other random companies about buying the domain from them.  I never even responded to those emails.  I didn’t want them to know that I had any desire of purchasing the domain, or that I even existed.  I assume they just would have done the exact same auction process, except flipped the domain to me for triple the price.

Now I just need to wait 60 days to flip it over to GoDaddy away from whoever the heck has it.  Done and done!

If you are deciding between backordering a domain with Namejet or Pool or Snapnames or GoDaddy:
Don’t waste your money with GoDaddy
Register with Pool, NameJet and SnapNames.
Wait to see if you have an auction to deal with.
*make sure you set the MINIMUM bid.  You will ALWAYS have a chance to up your bid if it goes to auction.  Some of the auction places will just have the purchase go through at your $500 bid amount… when you should have just bought the domain for $59.
