Bocce Ball League in Los Angeles
by thedayofgames on Mar.24, 2010, under "Dog Daze", Uncategorized
Want to join a Los Angeles Bocce Ball League? What you should probably do is check out the Dogdaze Leisure Sports Leagues. The league in Los Angeles has been around for a couple years and they play on the sand overlooking the Pacific Ocean. How could this not be fun? The league isn’t like other bocce leagues where you play the same game over and over again. The Dogdaze league includes many other tailgate sports so you don’t get bored playing bocce. Each week you get to play a new game that involves throwing something at something else. This is the Los Angeles Rec League that you have been searching for. The league takes place in Marina del Rey which is next to Venice Beach, close to Santa Monica, and nowhere near Hollywood. Joining is easy. Just go to Dogdaze Leisure Sports Leagues.
The best part about joining a bocce team is that the game is so easy. How tough could it be to throw a big rock at another little rock. Playing bocce on the beach makes it even easier. There is no rolling which is what makes playing bocce on the grass so difficult. Bocce is actually a super popular game among those who frequent the beach a lot and enjoy playing beach sports. This LA Bocce League is great to meet new people in the area, or just go relax with your buddies. What could be a better thing to do in LA than go to the beach and watch the sunset.
So check out the Dogdaze Leisure Sports Leagues. Bocce is one of the featured sports!
Tailgating Season OVER – Rec League Season to BEGIN!
by thedayofgames on Jan.12, 2010, under "Dog Daze", tailgating
201o tailgating won’t really get underway until the Fall. In the meantime, we have a little bit left for NFL Playoffs and then that’s about it. Tailgating hibernation time. But as tailgating season enters the cave to sleep through Spring and Summer… we can enjoy the sunshine and get fired up for some awesome rec leagues. Just because you can’t tailgate at the game, doesn’t mean that you can’t play tailgate games and enjoy a beer or two. The DogDaze Leisure Sports Leagues are starting in a couple months and sign-ups will start really soon.
Get some friends together and enter as a team, or just join solo and meet some new people. There aren’t too many cornhole leagues out there, probably just as many as there are bocce leagues or frisbeer leagues. The DogDaze leagues will give you everything you want. Bocce, Cornhole, Disc Golf, Ladder Toss, and even some random games like Croquet, Beach Golf, Shotput, Football Toss, Limbo, and other outdoor games. The focus on a quality beer league mentality is important. These leagues are to have a great time and then head to a bar to enjoy some beers and cocktails. This isn’t exactly sloshball or kickball… it’s better. More games, more people, and a local bar to go hang out at after the games are played.
The Spring 2010 season is starting soon so sign up now! Los Angeles (areas: Santa Monica, Venice, Marina del Rey, Hollywood, Playa del Rey, Culver City), San Diego (Pacific Beach, PB), San Francisco (the marina, russian hill, north beach, the mission, nob hill, richmond, haight, soma), Portland (northwest, goose hollow, arlington heights, hillside, sylvand highlands, pearl, downtown), Seattle (the U, university, queene anne, capitol hill, olympic hills, green lake, fremont, madison park), Denver (speer, baker, lincoln park, wash park, washington park, belcard, cherry creek, congress park, cbd, chessman park), Chicago (wicker park, old town, gold coast, river north, river west, bucktown, lakeview, wrigleyville, loop, logan square), Dallas (university park, highland park, glencoe, greenland hills, vickery place, lakewood, lower greenville, junius heights, m streets), Miami and New York (Manhattan, upper east side, upper west side, central park, midtown west, midtown east, murray hill, chelsea, gramercy, greenwich village, east village, soho, lower east side, tribeca)

And So It Begins…

WEEK 1 DOG DAZE OF SUMMER.
Today began the start of the Day of Games’ 8 week Leisure Sports League which took place on the beautiful beach of Marina Del Rey.
This week’s game choices: horseshoes, paddleball (aka smashball) and triple jump.

As the sun was setting, team KANSAS was just beginning their domination.

Ringer after ringer, they kept racking up points as other teams like POUND TOWN and TEAM WANG’s chances in beating them grew slim.

Ouch. And another one bites the dust.
Next up, paddleball in 3 distances: short, medium and long. Using old school rackets made out of wood and either a tennis ball or a racket ball, each team really had to bring it, as only the top 3 scores counted.
It was harder than it looked, as the highest score made was 9 points.

What perfect form made by BUNGALOW H.

We were having so much fun that the neighbor came out to watch!
Last but not least, triple jump!
I don’t know if you know how to triple jump, but it was quite a sight as when triple jumping, the seacond leap has to be made with the same foot as your first jump foot. For example, if you jump off with your left foot, then you have to take the second leap with the left again so that finally, the third hop is finished off with your right foot. A screw up could mean automatic disqualification of that distance!
The pressures on…

Some stretching was needed in order to get this right!

Don't want to pull a muscle!

RAMROD is off and running!

What a landing!
As the day ended, Team KANSAS came out on top with a score of 44 points. Second was TOPDOG with a score of 33 points and coming in close to third was team BUNGALOW H with a 1 point difference of 32.
All in all, it was the perfect day to relax and engage in a friendly leisure sports competition.

Do you think you have what it takes to come out on top?
Thursdays. 6:30 pm. Marina del Rey. Be prepared.
Don’t live near Marina del Rey?

Horseshoes, paddle ball (smashball), and the triple jump. Yes… the triple jump. Week 1 was a complete success. Team Kansas has jumped into the early lead, but there are several teams right on their heels. Next week is Limbo, Disc Golf (Frolf) and a little Beersbee. Anything can happen in this, the first ever, Leisure Sports League LA!
