Week 3: Lost and Found!
by DayofGamerAdriana on Jul.29, 2009, under Uncategorized
Week 3 update! Yes, I know it’s just a little bit late, but better late than never!
Week 3! Bocce Ball, Shotput and Football Toss.
For those of you who do not know how to play Bocce ball, volo, italian bowling, etc.. it is quite simple. This game consists of 1 small ball known as the jack or pallino, and 8 larger balls.

I spy with my little eye, a fly!
First, the jack must be thrown as it acts as a target for other bocce balls to aim for with points awarded to those with the closest ball to the jack. Taking turns, each player will throw or roll their bocce ball. They can even be tricky and try to hit other bocce balls or even the jack! Once all the balls are thrown, points are given to those who are closest to the jack. The team who reaches 12 points first wins the game!

Interesting fact: It is said that our first president, George Washington, had a bocce court in his home at Mount Vernon!
Next up, is Shot Put. Shot Put, a familiar track field event can even be played at the beach! woohoo! Shot Put may seem very simple, but it takes a lot of strength!

need some muscle to pull this off!
The players must hold the shot put under your jawbone directly under your right ear. The shot put should never come off of your neck until your release as you could be disqualified. When you are ready to release, stretch out your arm so that the shot leaves you at the longest spot, giving you time to push it forward.

Don't forget to stretch!
Last up, Football Toss. The one who can throw the football the farthest, is the winner! yaya.

That’s all for this week! Team KANSAS is still on top with a score of 174 points! Man, how do they do it?! BUNGALOW H is in second with a total of 123 points and third is team TOPDOG with 117 points. Everyone else! Ya’ll better step up your game since team KANSAS is schooling your butts.
Next up! Bowling, DDR, Pool, and Darts! Join in on the fun! Until next time…
Peace
Week 5: Fun in the Sun!

Week 5. Cornhole and Carnival Games. Need I say more?
Cornhole aka bag toss. A player stands a certain distance away and tries to throw their corn bags at a platform with one hole. 3 points is awarded to those who get the bag into the whole, 1 point is given to those who make it onto the board, and of course 0 points if it lands on the sand. The first team who makes it to 21 points is the victor.

Did he make it?

that's a 3 pointer for sure!
Carnival Games! Who says you’re too old!? Within Carnival Games was coin flip, putt putt, knock the cans, and weight guess.
Players had to 15 tries to flip a coin onto a plate. Whoever lands the most wins!

cha ching!$! hmm there's an awfully a lot of coins around the plate...
Putt Putt. Like intense mini golf, players must gently guide a golf ball into the hole. Be careful of any traps though!

Hole in one!?
Knock the cans. Players would stand a distance away as they try to knock over a pyramid of stacked cans. Fun huh!

What an action shot!
Last but not least, can you guess Brent’s + Eli’s weight? Each team gets the chance to guess their weight put together, then with Eli on Brent’s shoulders, they step on a weight for everyone to see. Teams got dangerously close as some were only 3 pounds off!

yeayuh. flex those muscles.
And that’s a wrap! Another eventful week in the beautiful Marina Del Rey! Convinced yet? Come and hang out with us!

:)
Week 4: YEOWZA.

Week 3= MIA. Coming sooon…..
ANYWAYS. Week 4 started off with a bang as Juggling was the first event. Sure people can juggle.

look at ALLIWAGG go!
But can you juggle while running/walking quickly to a cone and back in the fastest time possible?

BUNGALOW H came out on top with a fast time of only 8 seconds!
Next, Beach Golf. Beach Golf is just like golf, but on the beach of course. Competitors must hit the ball in the fewest swings possible to touch the “hole.” Simple right? Wrong. Sand is quite difficult as it is just like being in a HUGE sand trap everywhere!

Ready....Set...

Fore!

Hmm. Building a sandcastle? Or a tee off?
Last but not least, the longest drive. Who can hit the ball the furthest?

Woosh!
BUNGALOW H once again came out on top! Their victory this week moved them up the ladder, kicking TOPDOG out of second place! Team KANSAS still up on first, but who knows. Perhaps next week there will be a new Dog Daze Leisure League champion? Dare to find out? Stay tuned!
Week 2: Domination.

Sorrry for the late update folks! But here is the 411 on week 2 of DOG DAZE.
This week: Limbo, Beersbe, and Frisbee Golf.
Limbo. Who doesn’t love this game?

How low can YOU go?
Although TOPDOG claimed to have this game in the bag, team WANG pulled ahead to victory, beating everyone at bellybutton height.

There's no such thing as too low for her!
Y’all might not have heard of Beersbe before, but the idea is quite simple. The goal of the game is to knock the opponents’ can down using a frisbee. One point for knocking it, and the second point if the opposing team is not able to catch the frisbee. First team that reaches 21 points is the winner!

What aim!

wohoo! thats 2 points for team POUNDTOWN!
Lastly, Frisbee Golf. Just like in normal golf, there are “holes” around the beach in which the players must toss the frisbee and hit the holes in the fewest throws possible. It is not as easy as it looks!

Getting ready to tee off!

Go TOPDOG go! The less, the better!
That wraps up another good day on the beach with thedayofgames! You know you want to play. Come out! I dare you.
Until next time…
And So It Begins…

WEEK 1 DOG DAZE OF SUMMER.
Today began the start of the Day of Games’ 8 week Leisure Sports League which took place on the beautiful beach of Marina Del Rey.
This week’s game choices: horseshoes, paddleball (aka smashball) and triple jump.

As the sun was setting, team KANSAS was just beginning their domination.

Ringer after ringer, they kept racking up points as other teams like POUND TOWN and TEAM WANG’s chances in beating them grew slim.

Ouch. And another one bites the dust.
Next up, paddleball in 3 distances: short, medium and long. Using old school rackets made out of wood and either a tennis ball or a racket ball, each team really had to bring it, as only the top 3 scores counted.
It was harder than it looked, as the highest score made was 9 points.

What perfect form made by BUNGALOW H.

We were having so much fun that the neighbor came out to watch!
Last but not least, triple jump!
I don’t know if you know how to triple jump, but it was quite a sight as when triple jumping, the seacond leap has to be made with the same foot as your first jump foot. For example, if you jump off with your left foot, then you have to take the second leap with the left again so that finally, the third hop is finished off with your right foot. A screw up could mean automatic disqualification of that distance!
The pressures on…

Some stretching was needed in order to get this right!

Don't want to pull a muscle!

RAMROD is off and running!

What a landing!
As the day ended, Team KANSAS came out on top with a score of 44 points. Second was TOPDOG with a score of 33 points and coming in close to third was team BUNGALOW H with a 1 point difference of 32.
All in all, it was the perfect day to relax and engage in a friendly leisure sports competition.

Do you think you have what it takes to come out on top?
Thursdays. 6:30 pm. Marina del Rey. Be prepared.
Don’t live near Marina del Rey?
